Join us to learn about grass waterways and how three area farmers have implemented this conservation practice. Stop at one or all of the stations between 12-3 pm on Nov. 11 to talk to farmers and other experts about how waterways help protect our soil and water. Look for WWCC signs near each location. Station 1: Jerry Emmert What you’ll see: Several improvements made to the surface drainage of this farm, including two large culverts and installing a diversion berm to reduce erosion.
Field address: Near the intersection of 170th and County Highway G, Baldwin, Wis.
Station 2: Todd Doornink (Jon-De Dairy, Inc.) What you’ll see: Recently re-established waterway and planted grass to prevent erosion to provide protection while the grass is establishing. Winter wheat was also planted.
Field address: 30th Ave. 500 yards west of US Highway 63, Baldwin, Wis. (opposite Jon-De Dairy, 2061 30th Ave., Baldwin)
Station 3: Tom Zwald (Bomaz Farms) What you’ll see: A waterway currently under construction. The heavy rainfalls this year showed that it wasn’t big enough to handle the volume of water. It will be seeded with rye this fall and no-tilled with grass in the spring.
Field address: 30th Ave. 500 yards west of 162nd, Baldwin, Wis. More information: WWCC Waterways & Conservation drive-by field day
