Dia Sin Latinos (Day Without Latinos) rally on February 18 in Madison is related to two proposed laws. We want you to know that these bills, if approved, would have minimal effect on immigration status.
Assembly Bill 450
If this bill is approved:
Local governments would not be able to prohibit their police from asking about the immigration status of an individual who has been arrested or from communicating with federal authorities. Most cities already have chosen to allow police to make their own decisions.
As is the case now, it would be up to local police to ask about immigration status if they stop an individual. In the vast majority of the state, this bill would not change how things are being done now.
Senate Bill 533
If this bill is approved:
Local governments would not be allowed to issue a photo ID card for any resident unless it is employment related.
This would not affect immigration status and would not give police any more authority than they have now.
The Dairy Business Association is committed to doing everything in our power to block these bills.
