A celebration to benefit agriculture education is set to take place on St. Patrick’s Day at The Shack, located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
The first-annual Dairy Dance Party will make its debut on March 17 as an entertaining evening of both fun and fundraising. Guests will enjoy music, dancing, raffles and an auction, with proceeds going to support the Wisconsin Agriculture Education Center (WAEC), a state-of-the-art discovery center designed to be a destination for both local and out-of-state visitors to learn about modern farming and food production.
“The agriculture industry has been working hard to fundraise for WAEC. The committee has secured 86 percent of the funds needed to build the center,” according to Julie Maurer, dairy farmer and WAEC board of directors president. “The purpose of the Dairy Dance Party is not only to celebrate this progress, but to also help close the gap and get us closer to our fundraising goal.”
Behind the concept of the dance party is a group of dairy producers and industry professionals who feel strongly about supporting WAEC and other agriculture education efforts. Their vision was to host a casual, social event where guests could kick back and enjoy themselves while rallying around a good cause.
“Those of us working in the agriculture industry every day understand how important it is to educate others about what we do on farms and how food is produced,” event co-hosts Kari and Michael Kuehl say. “The goal of this event is to support that by dedicating profits to WAEC.”
The Kuehl’s will host the event along side Mark and Laurie Diederichs, Rick Schwenck and Kristy Pagel, Keith Engel and Kurt and Leah Petik. Their future plans include supporting other Wisconsin-based agricultural non-profit groups with a similar event held on an annual basis.
The Dairy Dance Party welcomes guests of all ages. A $10 donation is kindly requested. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with music beginning at 7 p.m. The Shack is located at W4786 Highway 23, near Fond du Lac. Vir-Clar Farms will provide complimentary transportation to the Holiday Inn and the Country Inn and Suites.
