#JuneDairyMonth: Ready, set, post!

June Dairy Month brings a great opportunity for the dairy community to engage our customers. Let’s do it together.

It is up to all of us to amplify our voices on social media and expand the dialogue between farmers and people unfamiliar with what they do.

Here are things you can do:

Create a theme: Those of you with social media channels, put them to good use. Be creative. Create multiple posts (photos, video clips, text) about a topic such as cow care, environmental sustainability or your family. Be sure to use the hashtag #JuneDairyMonth to join the conversation and add your own catchy hashtag to personalize the content. If you aren’t using social media, ask us for help and we will get you up and running.

Follow along for the ride: Many dairy companies, organizations and farmers will be asking people to participate in their social media campaigns. For example, you might be able to add a photo of your favorite dairy product to an existing Twitter feed. Don’t hesitate to join in. You may already have the photos or videos on your phone. Customers, especially millennials, want to hear directly from the person who is producing their food – you!

Engage your community: Customers’ curiosity will reach new levels during June. So, let’s point them to a local source of information. Promote local events such as a farm breakfast or dairy farm tour. It’s all about engaging people who are unfamiliar with farming. What better way than to give them an opportunity to experience it firsthand?

Teamwork makes the dream work: Just like a successful farm requires team effort, so does the social media world. By liking, commenting and sharing a dairy-related message, you can enhance the social media profile of the person who made the post and extend his or her ongoing reach to the non-farming community. Make the effort each day to engage with local June Dairy Month posts. You’ll be doing a huge favor for the dairy community.
