Since last spring, the DNR has been implementing rules and regulations, primarily through the CAFO permit process, forcing our farms to move away from the use of VTAs (Vegetative Treatment Areas). Letters had been sent to farms and consultants from both DNR and NRCS calling for the abandonment or replacement of VTAs. Additionally many of our farms across the state had also received letters over the concern of run-off from calf-hutch areas.
Not only has this issue confused our farmers, it has left many not knowing what to do in regard to on-farm expansions or facility changes. DBA has been dedicated to this issue that would have a devastating impact in the hundreds of millions of dollars for our Wisconsin dairy farms.
DBA has been working diligently to resolve this issue with our policymakers. Several possible solutions exist and might be obtainable. Before your farm heavily invests in correcting demands, please wait until you speak to us. We ask you to call us at the numbers below before Tuesday, June 13 to let us know your troubles and concerns on complying with the DNR's demands for your VTAs, calf hutch areas, or collection areas.
We cannot stress enough to call us or email us if you are experiencing hassles with your VTAs, calf hutch run-off, or collection areas.
