The UW-Madison Department of Dairy Science is seeking a Herd Manager for the Emmons Blaine Dairy Cattle Research Center in Arlington, WI, which is approximately 15 miles north of campus.
This is the flagship unit of our Integrated Dairy Facility, and it features 500 milking cows, 100 dry cows and 100 wet calves, in addition to state-of-the-art facilities for pen-based nutrition experiments and Insentec systems to measure individual feed intakes in the transition and high production pens. Calves from this unit are subsequently reared at the Marshfield Agricultural Research Station, which is a premier facility for research on growing animals and houses 550 replacement heifers. In addition, cows from the Arlington facility are transferred to and from our 80-cow Campus Dairy Cattle Center in Madison on a daily basis, depending on the research, teaching, and outreach needs of our faculty, staff, and students.
Applications are due by May 16. Please note that the posted salary is the minimum for this title range in the UW-Madison system, but we anticipate that a well-qualified candidate would start at a substantially higher salary.
