Friday deadline: Are you signing up for CFAP, DMC?

Monday, December 7, 2020   (0 Comments)

We want to make sure you are up to speed on applying for payments in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP 2) and enrolling in the Dairy Margin Coverage program.

The deadline for both is Friday.

CFAP 2

Eligible dairy farmers can apply for the direct financial assistance online here.

Dairy farmers are eligible for milk production, some livestock sales and row crops, in addition to many other eligible commodities. If you want one-on-one support with the application process, call 877-508-8364 to speak directly with a USDA employee.

Farmers who applied for CFAP 1 are not automatically enrolled in CFAP 2.

As of Dec. 6, USDA had approved 759,089 applications that provide $11.6 billion in assistance to farmers across the country. Dairy accounts for roughly 10 percent of the assistance, close to $1.1 billion in 21,172 approved applications. You can find payment information here.

Dairy Margin Coverage for 2021

Dairy farmers who want to enroll should contact your local FSA office.

DMC is a voluntary risk management tool that offers protection to farmers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed price falls below a farmer-selected margin level. More information, including a DMC decision tool for farmers, can be found here.

We understand that DMC may not wholly fit the needs for all dairy farms, however, it does add a layer of affordable protection for some.
