Hosted by Dairy Business Association, Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative, Iowa State Dairy Association, Minnesota Milk Producers Association, Nebraska State Dairy Association and South Dakota Dairy Producers
The National
Milk Producers Federation announced its intent to request an emergency hearing on the Class I pricing formula. The Dairy Business Association, Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative, Minnesota Milk Producers Association, Nebraska State Dairy Association and South
Dakota Dairy Producers have proposed their own Class III Plus plan. Also, FarmFirst expressed support for returning to the earlier pricing system known as "higher-of."
In this webinar, Dr. Marin Bozic will review the trends in Class I sales
and dynamics that led to the current debate on appropriate policy framework for pricing fluid milk. We will review USDA's concept of “disorderly marketing” and evaluate all three proposals' (Class III Plus, Higher-of, and NMPF) capacity to create more
orderly milk marketing. We will explore consequences of these reform proposals for producers' milk checks and risk management strategies, as well as milk consumers. We will situate these requests within a larger need to modernize FMMOs to reflect changes
in the dairy sector in the U.S.
