Dairy Stream: Why farmers of the future must focus on ESG

Tuesday, July 26, 2022   (0 Comments)
From Dairy Stream

In a changing global marketplace, dairy farmers are evolving how they do business, including more of an emphasis on areas they have not traditionally evaluated.

ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) continues to be a priority as farmers figure out how to monetize more sustainable farming practices and better integrate with the food supply chain. Dairy Stream host Mike Austin talked with Sam Miller, managing director of agriculture at BMO Harris Bank, about the future focus areas of the food value chain, rising costs and ESG.

Miller shared insights from BMO’s annual Farm to Market conference, an event that brings together public and private companies with the investment community to discuss the food sector. Among the issues discussed at the event, they focused on concerns about supply chain, inflation and global disruption, as well as ESG.

Miller detailed his thoughts on each topic, noting the lingering supply chain effects of COVID-19, the impacts from rampant inflation and how global disruption may cause food insecurity and hunger for many around the world.
